On our second day in Costa Rica, we went to Playa Negra during the day and to a local soccer game in the evening.
This is what I wrote in my journal:
July 9, 2011
We woke up and ate breakfast and everyone went swimming in the pool. Molly had to work early so Andre showed us the beach at Playa Negra. We played in the black sand and swam and built black sand castles decorated with sea shells and sticks. There were a lot of iguanas and crabs at the beach. This beach is a popular surfer beach so there we’re a lot of local surfers hanging out or surfing. The we went back to Molly’s and swam in her pool again. Molly and I drove to a local store and bought some beer and chips and Molly showed me that you can drink a beer as soon as you buy it in the store…the cashier hands you a bottle opener. I LOVE Costa Rica!
That evening we went to a soccer game and a man fell over the side of the barrier into the field….probably about a 10 foot drop. The players had to drag him off the field and he just laid on the ground by the side of the field the rest of the time. Then we went back to Molly and Andre’s and they cooked us dinner. We watched some movies before going to bed. Awesome Day!
Below are photos of the kids playing in the black sand at Playa Negra which literally means…”Black Beach”. You can read more about Playa Negra here. The sand was so cool, it felt like sand but looked like tar. It was so interesting to see the difference in the types of sand at each of the different beaches we went to. Playa Negra is a great beach for surfing. There was also a film made at Playa Negra called: The Endless Summer II. We also saw several crabs and iguanas by the tree line.
Below are photos of us all at the soccer game in the closest little town near Molly and Andre’s house. I don’t know why I didn’t take any photos of the actual game? lol. i was too busy taking pictures of all of us I guess! Maybe my husband has some he can give me to post later. : )
