Refrigerator Spin Art

Spin Art- arial view

My daughter Bijou and I made framed art with a crusty old spin art spinner that we bought at Michael's a few years ago.  The machine doesn't look pretty anymore because it's covered in paint but the thing has paid for itself over and over again with the priceless entertainment it has provided our kids.  Then we framed the spin art and put magnets on the back of it to hang on our refrigerator. Starting out with a small bit of fuscia. Lifting the lid and checking progress. More colors!     Arial view of Spin Artist in action!  As you can see, we need to repaint our deck.  It's on the list to be done this summer....along with fixing everything else in the house! More PAINT! Good job Bijou. hmmmmmm....I'm getting bored.   Side view!   Spin Artist!   Finished spin art. I had these frames from when my oldest daughter was a baby and I printed out fairies and framed them.  Now … [Read more...]

No Sew Kitchen Curtain

No sew curtain panel

I am here with a quick how-to make a no sew simple kitchen curtain.  If you go all the way back here to before I started remodeling the kitchen, you can see that one of my initial goals was to put up a new kitchen window treatment. Here's a photo of the kitchen before.   So we did some shopping at Joanns Fabric.  You can go here to see us looking at the fabric at Joanns.   I ended up picking out this bright orange and green fabric. All you need is a piece of fabric, a curtain rod and I used Stitch Witchery- Fusible Bonding Web which is a tape that bonds the fabric together and takes the place of sewing! (Yeah!!!) My kitchen window is 35 inches across and I wanted the curtain to be about 10 inches long.  To make room for the hemming tape, I added two inches to each side. So I measured 39 inches of fabric across and 14 inches of fabric long. Here is the cut piece of material. Then I measured two inches on each side and put a … [Read more...]

Outlet Spacers In

finished outlet and switch plates

I had to install outlet spacers after I put up the penny tile backsplash to make the outlet plates flush with the tile. What happens is the tile comes out farther than the outlet so there is a gap in between the plate and the tile. The outlet on the left is how they are supposed to look.  Flat against the tile with no space between the outlet and plate.     So you take the outlet spacer and cut it to the thickness you need.   Fold the spacer over so like an accordion.   Finding the right thickness might take some trial and error.  If they are too thick, the plate won't be flat against the wall but if they are not thick enough, there will be a gap between the outlet and the plate. This one isn't screwed all the way in yet. Pretty closely screwed in and ready for the plate. Some of the screws that were originally holding the outlet in the wall were not long enough because the spacers pushed the outlet … [Read more...]

Happy Mother’s Day

Bowie Baby

Happy Mother's Day Moms! Time goes so fast.  It seems like in the blink of an eye, I was in the hospital having my daughter Crescentia and now she will be 9 years old in June.  I remember the moment the nurse put her in my arms and remember thinking that it was the happiest moment of my life.  Nothing had ever come close to the feeling I had at that moment because it was the moment I became a Mom and at that moment that the nurse put her in my arms, she placed a part of my soul in my arms. That's why I love this quote: Making a decision to have a child--it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.  Elizabeth Stone It's so true.  My kids are my heart and soul.     My stepsons, Ethan and Dave, Daddy holding baby Bowie and me holding Crescentia- 2007.   The first time Mom.  Baby Crescentia and me-2004. Sensi- Before and After. :) My little boy Bowie- 2007.   Bowie- … [Read more...]
